The End of Smartphones

Today everyone has a smartphone and we pay 1,000 dollars and more for it. Apple became the first publicly traded U.S. company to reach $1 trillion in market value. Berkshire Hathaway is the second-largest holder of Apple shares. Warren Buffett explained that he loves Apple as an investment and said: “I do not focus on the sales in the next quarter or the next year. I focus on the … hundreds, hundreds, hundreds millions of people who practically live their lives by the iPhone.” He also called the iPhone enormously underpriced, saying that it’s worth far more than the 1,000 dollars Apple charges.

Serious? Well, then I would like to give you another view of what is going to happen in the upcoming years. I say, the end of smartphones is coming before the end of the next decade and the value of smartphones will drop faster and faster with every year before they completely disappear. By the year 2030 nobody will waste money on a smartphone. This is something you can compare with CD’s today. Who needs a CD or DVD today when you have millions of songs and video streaming services available at any time for a couple of bucks? You pick the title out of 30,40,50 million of titles and online streams. Why would you go back to a hardware that can be damaged or scratched, waste your time to find the right title and before you can play it, you need an additional hardware like a CD or DVD player? No way you want to go back to this practice.

This kind of logic will exactly be the same reason you will not spend one single dollar to buy a smartphone when every device you have is smart. Yes, every wearable will be smart and every device around you will be smart. And when you speak to your wearable and it delivers millions of services based on simple voice commands, you don’t want to carry a lumpy device in your pocket, when your wristband, your watch, your chain, your ring, your belt, your earphones and in most cases your glasses can do much more and much better than your smartphone will ever be able to deliver.

For some reasons a song from Mike & The Mechanics comes to my mind when they sing:

Looking back over my shoulder, I can see that look in your eye

I never dreamed it could be over, I never wanted to say goodbye”😊

Yes, we will say goodbye to our smartphones. It´s hard to believe from today’s point of view, I know, but this is going to happen and it´s coming faster than you can imagine. The gigaaa business development team is preparing projects with a large number of hardware manufacturing companies producing: bathroom mirrors, refrigerators, coffeemaker, vacuum cleaner, toaster, kitchen lamps, bedroom alarm clocks, TV sets, loudspeaker, internet router, living room tables, power banks to charge your smartphones, cars, promotion displays etc. Every single connected device will be equipped with a tiny microphone, loudspeaker, Wi-Fi connector or digital SIM card for mobile network connection, so that you will be able to talk to every device and receive the requested answer and visualized results in one of the displays around you. Everything will be connected, and everything can receive your voice commands so that you don’t care about smartphones anymore.

Before I continue to talk more about hardware and connected devices, I would like to point out one major thought. What’s most important to understand right from the start is, you will operate all these devices with one single AI voice assistant. Your one single AI assistant will manage all your commands and you will speak to just one single, to your one and only voice assistant, and you will speak to it through any device. You talk to your bathroom mirror and your AI assistant answers, when you go to the kitchen and speak to the refrigerator or your coffee maker, it’s again the same one AI assistant you will talk to. And when you enter the unmanned cab on the way to the city, you will again speak to the same assistant you were speaking to at home. It will be always the one, your one AI assistant you are used to talk to and the one that you trust to talk to.

Now a song from 1991 comes to my mind from Chesney Hawkes when he sings:

I am the one and only, nobody I’d rather be

I am the one and only, you can’t take that away from me 😊

You think this is science fiction and it doesn’t make sense? Well, then try to look at this vision through the eyes of data protection and privacy. How many people do you trust today when it comes to your finances or other secrets? Not so many, right? So how many AI assistants are you going to trust in the future to share your private life and secrets with? I guess you will think twice before you start speaking with a new assistant and provide all your personal information. You will make a selection, start to train the one selected system and train it the best possible way to protect yourself and your private life. You will be careful and do anything to minimize the risk of fraud and cybercrime because these kind of systems will know more or less everything about you.

Today we are careless, and we trust Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple etc. but think twice. In a world when more or less anything gets connected and all systems and devices start exchanging data with each other, do you really want to share your privacy with everyone? I guess you don’t and that is when the one, the one and only, AI assistant appears on the scene to a place to take care of your protection and your privacy.

Today the smartphone is your only smart connected device and it knows already very much about you, including your contacts, the locations you visit, your emails, your search history, your bookings, your calendar. A company like Facebook knows even more like your chat history — yes, your chat content, your dirty chat, your fantasies, your future plans, the people you love and the people you hate, it knows most of your preferences like brands, movies, songs, books, locations etc. Yes, my dear, Facebook knows a lot. They really know a lot about you and I guess you don’t even know it. But with time you will start thinking about this more and more and someday you will understand that every new connected device you add to your profile and to your home will interact with each other and exchange your private data. Then everyone should really start acting and pick the one assistant that takes care of our privacy and manage all other systems, applications, and devices we use, before we become completely transparent to everyone and pull our pants all the way down.

There is a song from the 80’s by Jermaine Stewart that comes to my mind when he sings:

We don’t have to take our clothes off

To have a good time, Oh no

We could dance & party all night

And drink some cherry wine”😊

The coming years we will see a huge number of new smart and connected devices that we will be able to talk to and make our life easier. The gigaaa team has started a project with a hotel chain to build a showroom with connected devices managed by gigaaa AI voice assistant. Next year you will enter the conference room and speak to several devices to order your cab or a pizza, to remind you about a meeting, to show your calendar in a display, to turn off the lights or air conditioning, to message your friend about next week’s weekend trip, to turn on the video projector with your presentation and all of this by simple voice commands and no smartphones in the room. I will keep you updated on this. Already in 2019, we will be able to show you how life without a smartphone is going to look like in private and business life.

Yes, the connected world will make our everyday life so much easier, but as it is with all things in life, there are two sides to every coin and we should be aware of this before we start adding more and more connected devices to our life. In my next blog, I will talk about how gigaaa will assist you to give you more quality time in private life.

Have a great time. See you next week.

“I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe

I feel it coming, I feel it coming, babe” 😊

Well, one thing I am telling since years, the end of smartphones is coming within the next decade and the biggest victim will be Apple. This decline is just the beginning and 2018 will be remembered as the year when Apple reached their peak revenues, profits, and market valuation. From now on be prepared to see declining values, so that Apple is likely to see more dark clouds in the coming years. Fewer smartphones and more other smart devices you can speak to will conquer the markets. Your AI assistant will become the next technology you will set up to manage your day and you will access it through all kind of connected devices like watches, earphones, glasses or smart home devices like mirrors, loudspeakers or microwaves.

We at gigaaa believe that AI assistants will replace smartphones. That´s why we have started implementing gigaaa AI assistant with a couple of devices like a smart mirror, a smart loudspeaker, and a smart bedroom clock. Within the first quarter of 2019 we will present first prototypes to the market and continue integrating with many more devices this year. World leading market research company Gartner estimates that 30% of our interactions with technology will be through conversations with smart machines by the end of this year. Now, one in six U.S. adults owns a voice-activated smart speaker or device and that number will continue to rise as well. Voice Assistant Technology is the future of business. When you think about voice technology right now, you think about simple smart home tasks. You think about how easy it is to send a text or play your favorite song. This year you will see businesses to be driven by these Voice Assistants. Speaking to Alexa for business will be as natural as doing something yourself. Voice Assistant technology will free employees up to work on more important things like anything that addresses customer’s needs. This new form of communication, in conjunction with other technology, will push businesses further than ever before. The best part about Voice Assistant technology is you don’t have to wait to use it. Large corporations are beginning to see the benefits of it and are making moves to make it a part of their business. Recently, Microsoft and Amazon formed a partnership to integrate Cortana and Alexa to better serve their customers and enhance their productivity. Amazon already has a current partnership with Logitech, which allows Alexa to be used in various vehicles on the market. Voice Assistant technology has opened a huge list of opportunities and many organizations are already taking advantage and gaining a competitive edge in the market. Anyways, be prepared to see many many devices coming to market you will be able to speak to. Devices from Amazon, Google and from gigaaa, too. I just got the lyrics on my mind of a funky song from 1981 performed by The B. B. & Q. Band called On The beat when they sing:

“Are you ready or not, It’s only up the street

Everybody’s dancin’, And everybody’s on the beat” 😊

Another big trend you will watch, social media as we know it the last 15 years will change very quickly. People are more aware of how important real friendships are compared to hundreds of fake friendships on Facebook or other social media channels. We must admit Facebook & Co separated us from each other. Don’t you think that Facebook is a lazy friendship? It is so much easier and with more quality if you stay in touch with a handful of people you love keeping in touch with. On top of that, you lose your privacy, your data is shared with companies that pay for collecting personal information from users’ profiles. Do you really want companies to use your data and do business with it? Is that the social media tool you will go on using in the future? People live in a competition to prove their life is better or cooler than anyone else’s. Why would you spend your time looking at the lives of other people instead of living your own life? Why wouldn’t you speak with someone personally to learn about their life?

What kind of friendships do you want in your life?

Be honest with yourself, wouldn’t you agree that meeting truly good friends makes happier than receiving a hundred likes from people you actually don’t care about? This reminds me of a song by Foreigner called I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS when they sing:

“I’ve gotta take a little time, a little time to think things over

I better read between the lines, In case I need it when I’m older”😊

Setting up a gigaaa AI assistant account and using our GIG Service will offer you a whole new experience to connect with your friends in a much smarter way, more creative, more active, time-saving processes to set up your next GIGs, events or dates. You will learn the new comfort way of how to organize your time with people that really matter to you. When will you set up your first AI assistant account?

The shift in social media and more connected devices you can speak to. This is only two of many more changes you will see in 2019.

In my next blog, I will talk about other changes you can expect this year and give you a picture of what to expect from gigaaa in the future to bring further value to your social life.

Have a successful 2019. Stay tuned and see you next week.
